An opportunity to get acquainted with the newly built 31,000 m2 museum storage, which houses the collections of four museums, museum specialists’ work rooms, restorers’ workshops, laboratories, etc. As part of the excursion, Latvian National Museum of Art, National History Museum of Latvia and Film museum collection storages, restoration workshops and processing rooms will be visited.

One of the main landmarks of Old Riga, the Riga Cathedral, will be presented to theconference guests, as well as its construction history and the restoration works conducted in the last decade. During the period 2012 to 2018 major conservation works in Riga Cathedral were carried out, including the restoration of the organ facade, as well as conservation of wood constructions of the tower and roof. Currently, the restoration of the entrance doors painted by K. Meier is underway, as well preparations are also being made to strengthen the foundations. As part of the visit, it is planned to climb the Cathedrals tower. You will be introduced to the restoration works by the head of conservation Ronalds Lūsis. The visit is planned from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Riga Castle is currently undergoing active restoration works. The purpose of the rebuilding and restoration of the convent of Riga Castle is to preserve the historical heritage, highlight Riga Castle as an important historical place and create premises for a modern museum. It is planned to restore the chapel andmrooms of Remter of the convent building of the Riga Castle to their original medieval form. The goal of the restoration is to preserve this monument for future generations, saving original architectural elements and structures. The Latvian National History Museum will be in the oldest part of Riga Castle. Restoration works manager Juris Pavlovs will introduce you to the restoration works of Riga Castle. The visit is planned from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

A gorgeous, modern museum with an outstanding collection of cars and a modern, exciting display and a rare opportunity to look into the restorers’ workshops. The Riga Motor Museum collects, preserves, restores and popularizes old vehicles. In the extensive exhibition, we can see cars that have been unique in the world and trace the history of car development. It should be noted that it is the largest museum of its kind in the Baltic States.

The Zuzeum art center occupies a prominent place in the cultural space of Latvia, creating versatile exhibitions and popularizing Latvian art in the world context. We offer to see the exhibition; Porcelain feast – invite Kuznetsov. It exhibits more than 1,000 porcelain, faience and earthenware items from the Zuzani collection. The exhibition tells the story of the Kuznetsov porcelain production in a visually gorgeous way. After the tour, you will have the opportunity to look into the restoration workshop and the collection storage rooms.

An opportunity to meet a furniture restorer and see various objects in the restoration process in his workshop, as well as share experience on the application of restoration methods. In the workshop, you will be able to see antique furniture from private collections and objects of sacred art from various Latvian churches. The tour will be led by furniture restorer Aigars Pilenieks.

An opportunity to get to know the collection of the open-air museum and the specific preservation conditions. Ethnographic Open-Air Museum of Latvia is one of Europe’s oldest and largest outdoor museums. Since its establishment in 1924, the museum has collected 118 historical buildings from all over Latvia. Riga and all of the regions in Latvia – Kurzeme, Vidzeme, Zemgale, and Latgale are represented here. The buildings have been set up to provide visitors with a sense of Latvia rural landscape. During its long existence for 100 years, the museum has faced many challenges, one of them is to preserve cultural objects and the environment. You will be introduced to the restoration works by the head of Deputy Director Dr.hist. Mārtiņš Kuplais.
